Long ago the month of Long Night used to be called Chill’s Fervor, until it was officially changed in the year 2357 VE.
During the Rotting Hand Upsurge the Necromatic Generals had secretly worked on a special obelisk, which, when completed would hide the sun and layer the land in darkness. In the year 2354 VE the generals finally completed their grand work, and combining their powers into the obelisk, were able to hide the sun. This began on the first of Chill’s Fervor. For the duration of Chill’s Fervor the brave warriors of the Vigilant Empire fought hordes of enemies and searched for the cause of this blackout. Eventually they caught word of a strange artifact that had been built behind enemy lines. After an arduous 35 days of darkness (on Chill’s Fervor 35) they managed to destroy the obelisk, returning the land to it’s normal day and night cycles.
For the next few years people would talk about events that happened or things they did during the “Long Night”, and one day Emperor Lightbringer declared that the days that had been blanketed in darkness would now officially be known as Long Night.
